Roderick Shaw was born in England, studied piano and horn from an early age and later organ, harpsichord and musicology at Cambridge University where he also directed the Jesus College choir and the University orchestra. At the same time he was active in the early music revival, playing with the Academy of Ancient Music under Christopher Hogwood. He continued his studies in baroque performance at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in The Netherlands, subsequently forming his own chamber choir and orchestra in Amsterdam. He directed the Academy of the Begynhof for twelve years in concerts and recordings which include several internationally acclaimed CDs of music by Purcell.

In Germany Roderick Shaw pursues a varied career as a conductor and pianist/organist with leading orchestras such as the WDR Sinfonieorchester, the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, the DSO Berlin and the Bayerische Staatsorchester in Munich. He is also much in demand as a chamber music partner, accompanist and vocal coach.
